Attach a screenshot in Grok Bot chat

Cursor staff (mohitjain, Sep 2, 2026) give a short path for getting a screenshot into the Bot conversation so the assistant can see it.

Attach the file

1. Save the screenshot to a file on your Mac or Windows machine (PNG or JPG from the screenshot tool is fine).
2. In the Grok Bot composer, click + and pick that saved file, or drag the file in from Finder / File Explorer.
3. Wait until a thumbnail appears in the composer.
4. Send the message after the thumbnail is visible.

Dragging straight from a browser tab or another app, or pressing Enter before the thumbnail lands, is the usual way the image silently drops and the Bot only sees text.

Forum and support uploads

Staff call assistant-driven forum upload a current limitation. The Bot cannot upload files through a web editor on its own today. For a Cursor forum bug or support ticket that needs the image:

• Attach the screenshot yourself on the forum composer, or
• Reply to the support email with the file attached.

Pitfalls

• Paste or drop without a saved file often arrives as text only (“that image I just sent you”) with no attached-files note and no bytes on the assistant computer.
• Waiting for the thumbnail is part of the attach step, not optional polish.
• Do not expect the Bot to file a forum topic with screenshots attached end to end until that feature ships.
