Does xAI train on files Grok pulls through a connector?

Connect Google Drive and ask Grok to summarize a contract, and that document's text lands in the conversation. The consumer FAQ answers training at the level of the conversation: “We may use your content and interactions with Grok (e.g., prompts, searches, and other materials you submit) along with Grok's responses to train our models.” No published page carves connector-fetched content out of that sentence, and no separate connector toggle for training exists in the docs. The controls that do exist are account-wide.

Turn training off

On the Grok mobile app, open Settings → Data Controls and turn off Improve the model. On grok.com, open Settings → Data and turn off Improve the Model.

Only new conversations are covered once it is off. Feedback you submit later may still be used for training. Unauthenticated use outside the EU/UK may show no opt-out at all.

Keep one session out entirely

Private Chat excludes content and interactions from model training, hides the conversation from your history, and deletes it from xAI systems within 30 days. Pull a sensitive Drive file inside Private Chat when a single session is the concern.

Business and Enterprise

The consumer FAQ states that xAI does not use content from business and enterprise customers to improve its models, and points at the Enterprise FAQ for the detail. On those plans a team admin provisions each connector in the cloud console before members can use it.

Cut the access itself

1. Open grok.com/connectors and click Disconnect on the connector.
2. Revoke the OAuth grant in the provider's account permissions (Google, Microsoft, Salesforce) for a second lock.
3. Delete uploaded files at grok.com/files. Deleted chats and files leave xAI systems inside the standard retention window unless law or safety requires longer.

Pitfalls

• Disconnecting a connector today does nothing about conversations that already happened with training on.
• Each Google surface is its own OAuth row, so Drive, Gmail, and Calendar are revoked separately.
• Opting out is per account, and a second signed-in account keeps its own setting.
