Fix Grok Imagine when it stops generating after login

You can sign in and still get a stalled progress bar, a blank preview, or “an error occurred loading this image.” Work through usage, account sync, and a clean client before you assume Imagine itself is down.

Check the weekly pool first

  1. Open Grok on the web or in the app.
  2. Go to Settings → Usage.
  3. Read the progress bar, the Imagine slice of the product breakdown, the weekly reset time, and any Extra Usage Credits.

Paid SuperGrok plans share one weekly pool across Chat, Imagine, Voice, Build, and API. High-quality video spends the pool faster than a chat message. When the weekly limit is met, paid features pause until reset. Free-tier Chat and Voice keep their own limits on a separate schedule.

From the Usage tab on the web you can buy Extra Usage Credits (from $5), turn on Auto Top Up, or upgrade for a larger weekly allowance. Credits are web-only today.

Clear a stuck client

The FAQ’s first troubleshooting pass for login and activation mismatches also clears most Imagine stalls after a successful sign-in:

  1. Update the Grok app or hard-refresh the browser on grok.com/imagine.
  2. Log out, then sign back in with the same Apple, Google, or X identity that holds the subscription.
  3. Clear the app cache (or use an incognito Chrome/Edge window on the web).
  4. Restart the app, or delete and reinstall if the prompt still fires after a paid plan shows active.

If the web works and the phone fails (or the reverse), you are usually on two different logins. Fix the account match before buying another plan.

Quality that looks broken

720p video automatically falls back to 480p once you hit the 720p cap for your tier. The job can finish at a lower resolution without a hard error. Check the resolution control and the Usage tab before retrying the same prompt at 720p.

Still stuck after usage and cache

  1. Switch surface: try grok.com/imagine if the app stalls, or the app if the browser stalls.
  2. Start a short still (not a long video) with a simple prompt to see whether generation returns at all.
  3. Use Report an issue in the product. Include account email, platform (Web / iOS / Android), browser or OS, a screenshot of the stall or load error, and the approximate time.

Pitfalls

  • An empty Extra Usage Credits line with a full weekly bar means wait for reset, top up on web, or upgrade — mobile in-app credit purchase is listed as coming later.
  • Ad-blockers and extensions can break billing and some web surfaces. Test Imagine in a clean profile if the canvas never finishes loading.
  • Watermarked outputs and moderated prompts are separate from generation failures. See the watermark and Acceptable Use FAQ entries when the job is rejected for policy while generation itself finished.
