See and delete what Grok remembers
Grok can keep details from earlier chats and reuse them when you ask for advice or recommendations. Memories are listed so you can read them and drop the ones you do not want.
Turn memory on or off
- Open grok.com or the Grok iOS / Android app.
- Open Settings, then Data Controls (wording can read Privacy → Memory on some builds).
- Toggle memory. Off means new chats stop carrying prior remembered facts.
Memory shipped first on grok.com and the apps. EU and UK accounts were excluded at launch. X’s in-app Grok surface may lag the standalone apps.
Delete one memory
- When Grok surfaces a remembered fact in chat, open the control under that memory (web first; Android followed).
- Forget that entry. The rest stay.
- For a full wipe, clear memory from the same Data Controls page.
Tell Grok a standing preference in chat when you want it stored: role, tone, tools you use. Check the memory list afterward so the stored line matches what you meant.
Pitfalls
- Memory is inferred from chat. A throwaway joke can land as a preference. Delete it the moment you see it.
- Custom Project instructions and Grok Bot descriptions live elsewhere. After you clear memory, re-check Project files and Bot profiles if those still need to change.
- Region and product surface still gate the feature. If the toggle is missing, you are on a host or region without it yet.
