Rename a Grok Bot when the UI rename does not stick

Documented profile edit: open Bot actions → Edit Profile and set the name (also title, description, avatar) — Work with Grok Bot. On some surfaces that UI rename does not persist. Staff (mohitjain, Sep 17, 2026) are tracking it; the workaround that sticks is asking the Bot to rename itself. Report and OP follow-up: forum thread (jsolly; Grok Bot 1.10.0).

OP (Sep 19, 2026): UI rename fail looked mobile-only; desktop UI rename worked. A mobile rename briefly appeared on desktop, then reverted on mobile at runtime.

Rename so the name persists

1. Open the Bot’s conversation.
2. Ask it to rename itself, for example: “Rename yourself to River Rubber Necker and confirm the new display name.”
3. Wait for the Bot to finish the agent-side profile update and confirm the name in the sidebar.
4. If you still want a UI pass, retry Edit Profile on desktop after the agent rename — do not rely on mobile UI rename until staff fix it.

Check after rename

1. Confirm the sidebar shows the new name on the device you care about.
2. If you renamed on one device, wait ~30 seconds and open the Bot on the other (desktop ↔ phone) to see whether the name synced.
3. If mobile rolls back again, keep the agent self-rename as the source of truth and leave a forum note for staff with device + build.

Pitfalls

• Do not invent a separate Settings rename control beyond documented Edit Profile and the agent self-rename path.
• Scope is the Bot/agent display name in Grok Bot. Grok Build session rename is covered separately at /how-to/rename-the-current-session-in-grok-build.
• Cosmetic sidebar Move Down / section FRs are unrelated; fixing those will not make mobile UI rename stick.
