Teach a task in Grok Bot
Use this when showing the Bot a browser workflow once is faster than writing instructions for it. Teach a task lets you demonstrate the workflow so the Bot can turn it into a draft skill. Sources differ on what Teach a task produces. The docs say "The Bot turns the demonstration into a draft skill" (docs.x.ai/grok-bot/skills-routines-and-automations, checked 2026-09-25). The FAQ on x.ai/bot says "It saves it as a routine and runs it on its own next time" (checked 2026-09-25), and xAI's Aug 11 and Sep 3 posts also describe saving a routine. Record once
- Open the Bot that should own the workflow.
- Open the computer view in that one-to-one conversation.
- Choose Teach a task when the control is present.
- Describe the result you are about to show.
- Perform the workflow once. Teaching records visible computer interaction for up to ten minutes and does not record microphone audio.
- Stop when the outcome is done.
- Read the draft skill. Add decision rules, failure handling, and approval boundaries the demo will miss.
- Test the skill on a safe input before you schedule it.
Keep secrets out of the demonstration. Use the secure secret request for credentials instead of typing passwords into the recording or the chat.
Skill vs routine
A skill is a reusable set of instructions for how to do a task. A routine tells one Bot when to run a workflow, on a schedule or after a supported event. Start with a one-time task, make it reliable, save the method as a skill, and only then automate it. See Save a Grok Bot skill and schedule a routine.
If Teach a task is missing
Teach a task is rolling out gradually. If the control is not visible, ask the Bot to create a skill from written instructions and a completed task, then review and test that skill the same way.
Some flows stay on desktop: teaching a workflow by demonstration, editing a routine's schedule or instructions, and testing a routine. On mobile you can view a routine's schedule, next run, instruction, and Run history, pause or resume it with Active, and delete it (docs.x.ai/grok-bot/mobile, checked 2026-09-25).

Pitfalls
- Recordings longer than ten minutes — split long workflows into separate skills.
- Pasting passwords into the demonstration — hand over the computer for login and 2FA, or use the secure secret request.
- Scheduling a draft skill without a safe retest — a draft is not ready until you review and retest it.
