Turn a photo into an Imagine video on grok.com or the app
Grok Imagine Video 1.5 Fast on grok.com/imagine, iOS, and Android animates a still into a short clip with sound in the same pass. The still is the opening frame. Your prompt steers motion, camera, and audio.
For the developer endpoint (grok-imagine-video-1.5 with an image input), use the separate API how-to on image-to-video.
On the web
- Open grok.com/imagine and sign in.
- Upload a photo, or open a still already in your Imagine library.
- Switch the session to video if the Image / Video control is showing Image.
- Write a motion prompt only: what moves, how the camera travels, weather or cloth, and any sound you want. Skip re-describing the whole scene the photo already shows.
- Set duration and resolution from the controls you see after login. xAI’s Video 1.5 Fast speed quote is about 25 seconds to produce a 6-second 720p clip.
- Generate. Play once. Change one variable (push-in vs pan, shorter action, quieter audio) and generate again.
On iOS or Android
- Open the Grok app and go to Imagine.
- Add a photo from the camera roll, or start from a still you already generated.
- Choose video / animate when the picker offers it.
- Same motion-only prompt discipline as the web.
- Generate, review, then extend or edit only after the first take reads clean.
Prompt that holds
Name the verb and the camera. Examples that stay short:
- Slow push-in, subject turns toward camera, soft wind in the jacket, quiet room tone.
- Handheld pan left, leaves move, distant traffic, no dialogue.
If the face or product melts, shorten the action and keep the source still sharp.
Pitfalls
- Video spends the shared SuperGrok weekly pool faster than a still. Check Settings → Usage before a long session.
- Native audio (ambience, effects, speech) arrives with the clip. Ask for silence in the prompt when you need a quiet plate.
- App Store copy, marketing pages, and the live controls can disagree on max length and resolution. Teach from the control you see after login; Video 1.5 docs cover up to 15 seconds and higher resolutions on supported paths.
- Do not paste API fields (
image_url,reference_image_urls) into the consumer box. Those belong in Console / SDK calls.
