When typing / on desktop no longer opens the skills menu

Use this when you want to call a saved skill from the Grok Bot desktop composer and typing / no longer opens a menu. The skills are still there. The changelog and the docs currently disagree about /. This page names both sides. Checked Oct 16, 2026.

Changelog v0.68.1 (Oct 7, 2026) says: typing / in the composer no longer opens a menu of skills and actions.

Skills, routines, and automations still says: type / in the desktop composer to reference a saved skill; use @ for Bots, groups, routines, and connectors.

Those two official pages conflict. This page does not pick which one the product “should” follow.

Cursor staff (kevinn) said on forum thread 174932 on Oct 15, 2026 that this is expected in recent versions of the desktop app. Since 0.68.1, typing / in the composer no longer opens the skills menu. Your skills are all still there and still work. You can call a skill by naming it in your message, for example: “Use my skill to …”. Staff also said the / menu is still available in the Grok Bot mobile app. That mobile note is staff-cited only. It is not in the docs.

Call a skill on desktop

  1. Open the Bot that should run the skill.
  2. Name the skill in the message, the way staff described: “Use my skill to …” plus the job, the sources, and the stop points.
  3. Confirm the Bot follows that saved method. If it does not, open the skill text and check that the steps and approval boundaries are still what you want. See Save a skill in Grok Bot.
  4. If a private skill seems missing entirely, open Settings → Plugins → Yours and check that it is listed under Private skills. That check is about whether the skill exists, not about bringing the / menu back on desktop.

Do not keep typing / on desktop expecting the old menu. Changelog v0.68.1 and staff both say that menu no longer opens there.

Mobile, and the docs conflict

On the Grok Bot mobile app, staff said the / menu is still there. Official docs do not say that. Official docs still tell desktop readers to type /. If you are writing steps for someone else, say which surface you mean, and say that the docs and the changelog disagree.

@ is unchanged in the docs: use it for Bots, groups, routines, and connectors. A group chat is a different job: Start a Grok Bot group chat.

Pitfalls

  • Treating a missing / menu as deleted skills. Staff said the skills are still there and still work.
  • Following the skills docs on desktop without reading the changelog line. The conflict is still open.
  • Calling the mobile / menu official. That is staff-cited, not a docs sentence.
