When Grok Bot says SEND AFTER RECONNECT or sticks on Starting desktop
You will know how to fully quit and reopen Grok Bot after a stuck Starting desktop or SEND AFTER RECONNECT screen, and when that is not enough. Cursor staff said this class of failure was corrected. Fully quit. You do not need Update or Reset. Checked Oct 5, 2026.
On Oct 5, 2026, Cursor staff (kevinn) said on the forum that a recent change meant the Grok Bot computer did not have enough storage to finish starting up. That is why the desktop got stuck on "Starting desktop," attachments failed, and the mobile app sat on "SEND AFTER RECONNECT." Staff said that has been corrected, and that this is now fixed for everyone in that thread. The string "SEND AFTER RECONNECT" does not appear in docs.x.ai.
Staff also told one user that their computer appeared to have a slightly different issue, and later that evening they were still looking into it. The correction does not cover every report.
Fully quit, then reopen
Staff asked people to fully quit Grok Bot and reopen it. You do not need to use Update or Reset.
- On Mac, choose Quit from the menu bar, then open Grok Bot again.
- On Windows, quit it from the system tray, then open it again.
- On the mobile app, close and reopen it.
- Confirm the desktop starts and that a test message or attachment goes through.
If it still sticks after a full quit, post in forum thread 173788 or contact support. Cursor's get-help page asks for the account email, version and platform, what you were doing, a screenshot, steps tried, and the request ID. Email is hi@cursor.com.
If the computer stays unreachable
Official troubleshooting gives a generic order for an unreachable computer: Retry, then restart the app, then Recover, then Update, and Reset last. Staff's step for this incident is the full quit above, and they said Update and Reset are not needed for it. If you later follow the generic order for a different failure, keep Reset last.
