Why Grok Bot weekly usage reset early while the countdown stayed the same

Grok Bot subscriptions include weekly usage. Eligible accounts can add on-demand usage after that pool. Bot weekly usage is a separate pool from the SuperGrok Settings → Usage bar for Chat, Imagine, Voice, and Build.

What people saw

On some accounts the Bot meter dropped from a small used percentage (for example 4%) to 0% overnight while the countdown to the next reset still showed the same days left. That looks like an early private reset or a bug.

Staff answer for the Sep 1, 2026 drop

Cursor staff (deanrie) replied on the Grok Bot reset usage early thread: on Sep 1, 2026, Grok Bot had a global weekly-usage reset that Elon announced on X. Existing used percentage was cleared and the limit started over, so the meter showed 0% the next morning. The countdown to the next scheduled reset kept running as usual, so the remaining days did not jump. Staff called that expected for that event. They said the individual account looked fine.

What to check on your meter

  1. Open Usage & Billing in Grok Bot when that page is available, or Weekly usage in the account menu.
  2. Read the used percentage and the time until the next weekly reset.
  3. If Bot work is paused, confirm whether weekly usage is exhausted or an on-demand spending limit is hit — see Understand Grok Bot usage and “Bot failed to respond”.

A one-time global clear can zero the bar without rewriting the countdown. A normal week still ends at the reset time shown on your account.

If it happens again with no announcement

  1. Screenshot Usage & Billing (percentage, countdown, plan).
  2. Note OS, app version, and the time you first saw the drop.
  3. Report through the product or the Cursor forum with those details so staff can check for another platform-wide event vs an account fault.

Pitfalls

  • SuperGrok Settings → Usage on grok.com is a different pool. An early Bot zero does not mean your Chat/Imagine week also reset.
  • On-demand spend and weekly included usage are different controls. A zero weekly bar can still fail if on-demand is capped.
  • Do not invent a user “force reset” button. Bot FAQ documents weekly usage and on-demand; it does not document a self-serve early reset.
