Why an Imagine 720p video comes out at 480p
Why an Imagine 720p video comes out at 480p
You asked for 720p. The file that landed is 480p. The product FAQ states the rule: 720p videos automatically fall back to 480p once you hit the 720p cap for your tier.
What to check
- Open Settings → Usage on web or mobile.
- Read the Imagine share of the weekly pool and any Extra Usage Credits balance.
- Check your plan tier on x.ai/pricing or Settings → Billing. Higher tiers include more weekly usage; 720p still has a per-tier cap separate from “I still have weekly percentage left.”
A remaining weekly percentage does not guarantee more 720p seconds. The 720p cap can trip first, then new clips render at 480p until the weekly reset or you add capacity.
Ways past the 720p cap
- Wait for the weekly reset shown on the Usage tab.
- Buy Extra Usage Credits on the web Usage tab (mobile in-app Extra Credits are not available yet per the FAQ).
- Turn on Auto Top Up if you want credits to refill when the balance is low.
- Upgrade the plan when you hit 720p caps every week — included weekly usage is usually cheaper per action than repeated top-ups.
Pitfalls
- The fallback is automatic. There is no separate “force 720p” switch after the cap.
- Extra Usage Credits run at standard rates, which cost more per action than included weekly usage.
- Watermark and provenance rules still apply to 480p and 720p clips. See Understand the Grok Imagine watermark.
