Connect SharePoint so Grok can search your sites

SharePoint is a built-in connector on Grok Business and Enterprise plans. After setup, Grok can search documents across SharePoint sites you can access, read file contents, browse folder structures, and — when write access is enabled — upload generated artifacts to a SharePoint drive.

Admin prerequisites

A team admin adds the connector once in console.x.ai under Grok Business → Connectors:

1. Choose an access mode. Delegated permissions (recommended) use Sites.Read.All on behalf of the signed-in user; docs suggest a dedicated account limited to the sites you want indexed. Application-level permissions use Sites.Selected and an allow list of sites.
2. Enter the Azure AD Tenant ID (domain or GUID from Azure Active Directory → Overview).
3. Grant admin consent — approve as admin, copy the link for IT, or skip and finish later. Members cannot authenticate until consent completes.
4. Select sites only if you chose application permissions. Search and add each allowed site; you can edit the list later. Delegated mode skips this step.
5. Enable write access (optional). Separate Entra app and consent for uploads. Without this step, members stay read-only even after they connect.

Connect as a team member

1. Go to grok.com/connectors.
2. Find SharePoint and click Connect.
3. Sign in with your Microsoft work or school account.
4. Review permissions and click Accept.

Per-user OAuth scopes include Sites.Read.All, Files.Read.All, User.Read, and offline_access. When org write access is enabled, members still opt in to writes individually on the connectors page; write is off by default for each person.

Search and privacy

Grok indexes SharePoint content for fast search, then access-checks every request against your Microsoft account. If you cannot open a file in SharePoint, you cannot open it through Grok. Official docs state xAI does not use SharePoint data for model training. Disconnecting deletes indexed data only you could see; admin removal deletes org-wide SharePoint index data.

Disconnect

1. Open grok.com/connectors.
2. Find SharePoint and click Disconnect.
3. Or revoke the app at myapps.microsoft.com.

Pitfalls

• Business or Enterprise plus admin provisioning is required; the connector will not appear for self-serve consumer accounts.
• Delegated vs application mode changes who can see which sites — pick the mode before members connect.
• Write uploads need both admin Enable Write Access and a per-member opt-in.
