Fix iOS Grok Bot stuck on “starting up” after first computer creation
On iPhone-only accounts, the Agent Computer can hang on first creation. Shell, file reads, and screenshots fail with “The computer is still starting up. Try again in a moment.” Tapping Update Grok Bot’s Computer or Reset Grok Bot’s Computer may do nothing. Fully quitting and reopening the iOS app alone may leave the same error.
Cursor staff (Colin, Sep 3, 2026) handled a multi-day first-creation hang (support ticket T-F36674) by adjusting the account on the backend, then asking the user to restart the app and retry a tool call. The reporter confirmed the computer came up after that path.
Restart after a stuck first creation
Staff recovery path from the forum thread:
- Fully quit Grok Bot on iPhone (swipe the app away in the app switcher so it is not left suspended).
- Open Grok Bot again.
- Wait one to two minutes before sending a computer action.
- Ask a Bot to run a quick command or take a screenshot.
If tools still return “still starting up,” note your Grok Bot version under Settings → About (or Profile → About) and reply on the forum thread or email support with that version and that Update/Reset taps did nothing. Account-side recreate is a staff action; the app has no separate “force provision” control beyond Update/Reset.
When Update and Reset do nothing
On a true first-creation hang, Update and Reset can appear dead. That matches the Sep 3 report. Keep using the quit → reopen → wait → retry sequence after staff has looked at the account. Do not create a second Cursor account to “start over.”
Pitfalls
- Distinct from Fix Grok Bot “Can’t reach your computer” and Fix iOS can’t-reach when Recover is missing.
- Desktop Mac/Windows can’t-reach steps do not apply when you only have the iPhone app.
- Quote the exact “still starting up” string and ticket id when you file so staff can match first-creation VM cases.
