Fix macOS Grok Bot showing empty first-run after sign-out while iOS still lists your Bots
Cursor staff (deanrie, Sep 2, 2026): when iOS on the same account still lists your Bots, those Bots, chats, and files are still on the server. The empty macOS first-run screen is a display issue in the desktop client, not data loss.
Signing out and back in on macOS should not unlink Agent Computer. Known issue: when the client cannot reach an existing environment, the desktop app falls back to new-user setup and can also show Can’t reach your computer during that setup flow.
Do nothing that overwrites state
Staff guidance while the Mac looks empty and iOS still shows Bots:
- Leave everything as is.
- Do not complete the empty setup.
- Do not create a new Bot.
- Do not use Reset or Recover.
Those steps avoid overwriting the existing environment.
After staff restore access
Staff may restore access to the environment on their side. When they confirm access is back:
- Fully quit Grok Bot on Mac.
- Fully quit Grok Bot on iPhone.
- Reopen the Mac app and sign in.
Bots should show up on the desktop list.
If Mac still shows new-user setup

Distinct from Recover / Hide cases
Sidebar empty after Recover, or Bots only under Show hidden chats, follows a different path. Use Find Grok Bots that vanished from the sidebar after Recover for Hide / Recover / Update / Reset cases. For the sign-out empty-desktop pattern above, staff told users not to run Recover or Reset.
Pitfalls
- Completing first-run setup on the empty Mac can create a new Bot or overwrite state staff are trying to reattach.
- A “Can’t reach your computer” error during that empty setup often points at the same attach failure. See Fix Grok Bot “Can’t reach your computer” for the general recover order — and skip Recover/Reset here while iOS still lists the same Bots.
- Collect Grok Bot version, OS, and screenshots before support. Do not paste passwords or one-time codes into chat.
