Fix a weekly Grok reset that looks stuck, Auto Top Up, and 720p fallback
Fix a weekly Grok reset that looks stuck, Auto Top Up, and 720p fallback
The weekly reset time is printed on Settings → Usage. There is no documented user control that fires the reset early. Read that timestamp before assuming the meter is broken.
For the basic meter and what happens at the cap, see Check your weekly Grok usage.
Read the reset time
- Open Grok on the web or in the app.
- Go to Settings → Usage.
- Read the progress bar, the product breakdown (API, Build, Chat, Imagine, Voice), the weekly reset date and time, and the Extra Usage Credits balance.
Paid SuperGrok plans share one weekly pool (since June 2026). When the weekly limit is met, paid features pause until that reset time. Free-tier Chat and Voice keep their own limits on a separate schedule.
If the timestamp looks wrong and paid features stay paused past it, the FAQ path is contact support via the app or grok.com. The FAQ does not list a force-reset, timezone trick, or cache clear that restarts the week.
Auto Top Up
Auto Top Up adds Extra Usage Credits when the balance gets low. You choose the amount and a monthly cap.
- Open Settings → Usage on the web.
- Turn on Auto Top Up.
- Set the amount per top-up and the monthly cap.
- Turn it off on the same tab if you do not want automatic adds.
Extra Usage Credits are web-only, from $5, used after the included weekly pool is gone, and expire one year after purchase unless the purchase page says otherwise. They are priced at standard rates, so each action costs more than included plan usage. If you buy credits every week, the FAQ’s advice is to upgrade the plan for a larger weekly allowance at a lower cost per action.
Grok Bot usage is a separate pool. See Understand Grok Bot usage and “Bot failed to respond”.
Imagine 720p that lands as 480p
720p videos automatically fall back to 480p once you hit the 720p cap for your tier. The job can finish at the lower resolution. Check the resolution control and the Usage tab before retrying the same prompt at 720p.
Pitfalls
- Mobile cannot buy Extra Usage Credits today. Buy them on the web Usage tab.
- Auto Top Up fires when the balance gets low, inside the amount and monthly cap you set. Check those three controls if a charge surprised you.
- Credits are convenience for occasional extra. A higher plan is the documented better value if you hit the wall every week.
