Save Privacy Mode when every Grok Bot can’t reach the computer

Every bot on the account looks dead: Couldn’t refresh, black bubbles with no reply, Reset failed / partial state, on iPhone and desktop. Staff on Grok Bots not responding found the computer, chats, files, and logins were still intact. The account had no explicit Privacy Mode choice saved — signup only confirmed the data notice — so every connection attempt was rejected.

Symptoms that match

• All bots unreachable, including Chief of Staff
• “Something went wrong” / “Couldn’t check for a newer version”
• Reset fails with a partial or incomplete computer state
• Same account fails on desktop and iOS

Staff: Reset, Retry, and Recover will not fix this. Stop pressing them for this cause.

Fix: save Privacy Mode on the Cursor dashboard

1. Open cursor.com/dashboard in a browser and sign in with the same account Grok Bot uses.
2. Open Settings → Privacy.
3. Select Privacy Mode. Leave Legacy unselected. Keep data-sharing toggles as you want, then confirm.
4. Fully quit Grok Bot: Mac Cmd+Q; iPhone swipe the app away. Reopen.
5. Wait about one minute. If it still says Reconnecting, press Retry once.

Bots usually reconnect within a couple of minutes. Messages sent during the outage may need a resend.

If it still won’t connect

Send staff the time you tried (with timezone) after the dashboard save + full quit. The computer did not need a rebuild for the Privacy-never-saved cause.

Pitfalls

• The signup data notice alone leaves Privacy Mode unset — save it in dashboard Settings.
• Legacy blocks Bot storage; pick current Privacy Mode.
