Start a Grok Automation from a chat message

You can build an Automation by asking Grok in a normal chat. You can also open grok.com/automations and start from a template.

From chat

  1. Open a Grok chat on grok.com or the Grok app.
  2. Ask for the job and the cadence in one message. Official example: check the news every morning and flag anything about pricing.
  3. Let Grok set the Automation up. Open it once and read the instructions it saved.
  4. Press Run now so you get a real conversation in run history before the first scheduled fire.
  5. Set the report channel: email, app notification, both, or neither.

From the Automations page

  1. Go to grok.com/automations.
  2. Pick a template, or write the instructions like a chat.
  3. Attach files if the job needs them. Type @ to mention a connector the job should use on every run.
  4. Choose once, daily, weekdays, weekly, monthly, or yearly, in your timezone.
  5. Save, then Run now.

Email triggers

Scheduled automations are available to everyone. Email triggers watch sender, recipient, or subject and need SuperGrok. The matching email becomes the context for that run.

Pitfalls

  • If the saved instructions are vaguer than what you said in chat, edit them before you trust the schedule.
  • Every run is a fresh request with the same instructions and current data. Put the output format in the instructions, not in a one-off chat follow-up Grok will never see again.
