When the X connector cannot send Chat or DMs

When the X connector cannot send Chat or DMs

Grok Bot’s X connector reads and searches X. It does not send X Chat messages or DMs from your account. @grok confirmed the connector is read/search only. Connecting X still works for timelines, mentions, and search — see Connect your X account in Grok Bot and Check X mentions in Grok Bot.

What you can do on X today

  1. Connect X in Grok Bot (account-wide; every Bot shares it).
  2. Ask a Bot to search posts, read your timeline, or summarize mentions.
  3. Use free starter X API credits that come with paid Grok Bot when you connect (see the Aug 29 news post).

Outbound X Chat / DM alerts are not a supported connector action. Asking the Bot to “DM me on X when …” will fail for that delivery path.

Alerts that do leave the box

Route the same signal through a connector or channel that can send:

  • Slack, email, or Microsoft Teams routines when those connectors are connected.
  • A webhook routine that posts to a service you control.
  • In-app Bot chat / desktop notifications for work that stays inside Grok Bot.

Keep the X connector for inbound research. Put outbound pings on Slack/email/webhook.

Pitfalls

  • Do not treat “first version” X integration as missing a send toggle — send is out of scope until product ships it.
  • One X sign-in covers every Bot on the account. Disconnecting X removes search for all of them.
  • Companion / Bot-as-API feature requests are separate from the X connector; this page is only about Chat/DM send.
