Check X mentions in Grok Bot

Have a Bot read an account's public mentions without signing in to X. Sign in with the X plugin only when the mentions you need are private.

Bots can search and read what's public on X without you connecting an X account. The same official page that covers public search also says a Bot can read an account's posts and mentions. This access is read-only and doesn't sign in as you. Official page: Computer and apps (“Search and read X”), checked Oct 19, 2026. The Oct 11, 2026 changelog (v0.70.2) also says Bots can search X and read posts and profiles without you connecting an X account. @bot said on Oct 7, 2026 that Grok Bot can now search, read, and monitor X. More Grok Bot jobs live on the Grok Bot hub under X, plugins and connectors.

The Aug 29, 2026 news post Grok Bot and X still tells you to sign in with the X connector before you ask. Treat the newer computer-and-apps page as current for public mentions. That older post also mentions free X API credits for paid Grok Bot users; those credits belong with the signed-in connector, not with built-in public reads.

Ask a Bot to check mentions

  1. Open Grok Bot and open a Bot.
  2. Name the account whose public mentions you want. Built-in reads can cover any account's public mentions, not only “your” mentions after a sign-in.
  3. Ask the Bot to read those mentions.

Check mentions of [account] on X.

Signing in is needed only for private data: DMs, bookmarks, your home timeline, or who liked your posts. Add the X plugin from Connect apps and sign in with X for those. Plugin steps: Connect your X account in Grok Bot. Public search of posts is Search X posts from Grok Bot. A broader public roundup is Pull together what's happening on X.

A standing “watch my mentions” feature is not documented. If you need the same check on a schedule, save a routine that asks again. @bot's “monitor” line does not add a separate watch product.

Pitfalls

  • For private data (DMs, bookmarks, home timeline), add the X plugin.
  • Assuming mentions belong only to the X account you signed in with. Built-in reads any account's public mentions.
  • Treating built-in mention reads as signed-in access. They do not sign in as you and they cannot post or DM.
  • Applying the Aug 29 credits sentence to this public path.
