Bots can search and read what's public on X without you connecting an X account. The documented list includes checking trends and news, searching posts, and reading an account's posts and mentions. This access is read-only and doesn't sign in as you. Official page: Computer and apps (“Search and read X”), checked Oct 19, 2026. The Oct 11, 2026 changelog (v0.70.2) also says Bots can search X and read posts and profiles without you connecting an X account. @bot said on Oct 7, 2026 that Grok Bot can now search, read, and monitor X. More Grok Bot jobs live on the Grok Bot hub under X, plugins and connectors.

The Aug 29, 2026 news post Grok Bot and X still says to sign in with the X connector and then ask a Bot to search posts. It also says paid Grok Bot users get free X API credits to start. Those lines describe the connector path. Treat the newer computer-and-apps page as current for public trends and news. Built-in access does not use those credits.

  3. Stay on public facts. If you need your home timeline or DMs, stop and add the X plugin first.

The Bot uses built-in public access. It does not sign in as you. For your DMs, bookmarks, home timeline, or who liked your posts, add the X plugin from Connect apps and sign in with X. “Monitor” in the Oct 7 @bot post is not defined. A routine that searches again is the documented way to repeat a public check. There is no separate monitoring product described on the computer-and-apps page.

Pitfalls

  • For private data (DMs, bookmarks, home timeline), add the X plugin.
  • Expecting this roundup to include your home timeline. That still needs the plugin.
  • Treating the Aug 29 connector-and-credits paragraph as the current public-search rule.
  • Asking the Bot to post or reply as you on this path. Built-in access is read-only.
