Assign and revoke Grok Business licenses
Assign and revoke Grok Business licenses
Move seats in the Grok Business overview on console.x.ai. Assigning activates team workspace access immediately; Unassign License returns the seat to the pool and drops team workspace access right away. Official guide: License & User Management.
Buying seats: Purchase or cancel Grok Business licenses. Invites with auto-provision: Invite users to Grok Business.
Who can assign or revoke
| Action | Permission |
|---|---|
| Assign or unassign a license | Team Read-Write |
| Purchase or cancel seats in the pool | Billing Read-Write |
Team admins usually hold both. Without Team Read-Write, ask an admin — role settings live on the overview.
Assign to an existing member
Use this when the person is already on the team list but has no seat (invite skipped auto-provision, or you moved seats).
- Open the team overview on console.x.ai.
- Confirm the unassigned pool has a free SuperGrok or SuperGrok Heavy seat. Buy more if the pool is empty.
- Select the user in the team list.
- Choose an available license type and assign it.
- Access activates immediately — no second email step.
License types on the overview:
- SuperGrok — standard business access with enhanced quotas
- SuperGrok Heavy — upgraded performance for heavier workloads
Revoke (unassign)
- On the overview, open the user’s … menu.
- Choose Unassign License.
- Confirm.
The license returns to the available pool. Team workspace access ends instantly. Personal workspace access remains.
Tell the person before you confirm — there is no grace period on the unassign click.
Pool hygiene
- Empty pool → assign and invite auto-provision both stall. Purchase seats or unassign unused ones, then retry.
- Canceling unused seats (Billing Read-Write) can take a few days; processed seats leave the pool.
- Moving someone from SuperGrok to SuperGrok Heavy: unassign the old seat, then assign the Heavy seat from the pool (or buy Heavy first).
Pitfalls
- Assign does nothing useful if the pool is empty — check unassigned count before you click.
- Unassign removes team workspace access immediately; personal workspace stays.
- Purchase alone does not grant access — someone with Team Read-Write still has to assign (or invite with auto-provision).
