Create a Grok Project and keep files in one workspace
A Project is a Grok workspace with its own chats, uploaded files, and instructions. Use it when the work lasts longer than one thread.
Open Projects on the right host
- Sign in at grok.com in Chrome or another Chromium browser.
- Open grok.com/project, or use Projects in the sidebar if you already see it.
- Create a new Project and give it a name you will recognize in a week (client, course, repo, campaign).
xAI's FAQ calls out that some hosts like grok.x.ai miss features such as Projects. Stay on grok.com when the sidebar looks empty.
Load the workspace
- Add instructions that only this Project should follow (tone, audience, hard constraints).
- Upload the PDFs, sheets, decks, or code the Project should keep referencing.
- Start chats inside that Project. Later threads in the same Project reuse the files and instructions you already set.
Ask against the uploads the same way you would in a normal chat: summarize, extract a table, compare two docs, or draft from the brief.
Pitfalls
- A chat started outside the Project does not automatically see Project files. Open the Project first, then chat.
- File caps still apply per surface. If an upload fails, check size and type the same way you would in a regular chat.
- Team sharing and org controls live under Grok Business and Enterprise. Personal Projects stay on your account.
