Get a Grok Bot free trial

Start the usage-credit trial on web or desktop, tell it apart from an App Store intro offer, and know what happens when the credit or the seven-day window ends.

The Grok Bot free trial is a usage credit rather than a set number of days, though a 7-day window also applies. It is drawn down by agent steps and tokens. A large or long-running agent task can use most or all of it at once. Used trial credit is not restored or topped up. Official page: Plans and billing. More Grok Bot jobs live on the Grok Bot hub under Usage, plans and billing.

Start the web or desktop trial

Cursor staff (deanrie) said on the forum (Sep 3, 2026) that you can start a free 1-week Grok Bot trial at cursor.com/bot/onboarding, that a card is required, and that there are no charges during the trial. The help pages do not mention a card, so treat the card step as staff guidance from that date, and follow the screen you actually see.

  1. Open cursor.com/bot/onboarding and sign in with the Cursor account you will use in Grok Bot.
  2. Start the trial from that onboarding flow.
  3. Open the Grok Bot app and sign in with the same account.
  4. Create a Bot and keep the first tasks small. The credit is usage, not a message count.

The help pages do not publish the credit amount. They also do not say that every new account gets a trial. Cancel Trial appears on free-plan accounts. On a paid plan or Teams seat, the trial ends on its own. Do not count on a Teams seat trial. New customers now start on The X Subscription. The help pages don't say whether the usage-credit trial is offered there.

Cancel, and what does not auto-renew

There is no charge to cancel, and the Grok Bot trial never becomes a paid plan. Cancel Trial ends the trial right away, removes any remaining trial credit, and you cannot claim the trial again.

That is different from an App Store intro offer. An App Store intro offer turns into a paid Apple subscription when the trial ends unless you cancel first. The Grok Bot usage-credit trial claimed on web or desktop is separate. Android has no in-app trial. See Mobile purchase.

When the trial is over

Cursor staff said on the forum (Oct 8, 2026) that after a trial ends, the app can show a misleading Can't reach your computer or having trouble connecting screen. Retry, Recover, and Reset do not fix a plan or trial problem. If you see that banner on a free account or an ended trial, follow Fix “Can’t reach computer” when no Grok Bot plan is linked instead of network steps.

To keep working, choose Premium, Super, or Ultra on The X Subscription. On a legacy Cursor account you can instead upgrade to Cursor Pro, Pro+, Ultra, or a Teams plan, link an individual SuperGrok, SuperGrok Plus, SuperGrok Heavy, or X Premium+ account, or sign in with a Grok Business seat. Linking doesn't stack on a Cursor plan. For the weekly meter after you have a plan, see Understand Grok Bot usage and “Bot failed to respond”. For the first Bot after access works, see Create your first Grok Bot teammate.

Pitfalls

  • Treating the web trial as an auto-renewing subscription. Help says it never becomes a paid plan.
  • Mixing it up with an iOS intro offer. That one can become an Apple subscription unless you cancel.
  • Looking for a published dollar or credit amount. None is documented.
  • Expecting a Teams-seat trial. On a paid plan or Teams seat, the trial ends on its own.
  • Rebuilding the computer when the trial has ended and the app shows a connection error. That screen can be a plan message in disguise.
