Remove the background in Grok Imagine

Export a subject from an Imagine still with a transparent background so you can drop it into a slide, poster, or product layout without a hard rectangular crop. Official Imagine Image 2.0 lists Background removal among the precise editing tools that ship with Quality Mode on grok.com/imagine and the Grok iOS and Android apps. Start in Quality Mode if you are not already there — Open Imagine Quality Mode and iterate a still.

What you need

A signed-in Grok account, Imagine on web or mobile, and a still whose subject is clear enough to cut cleanly (one person, one product, one mascot). Background removal is an Image 2.0 stills job. Remove the background

1. Open grok.com/imagine or Imagine in the Grok app, sign in if needed, and select Quality (v2.0) / Quality Mode.
2. Open the still that holds the subject you want to isolate, or generate a fresh still with a single clear subject and clean separation from the backdrop before you cut.
3. Choose the Background removal tool Image 2.0 exposes for that still (the news page also ships a BG Removal & Change template under Photo Tools when you prefer a packaged workflow).
4. Run removal so the subject exports with a transparent background, ready to place on another canvas.
5. Inspect edges: hair, glass, thin straps, and soft shadows are the usual failure points — regenerate or re-edit the source still if the cutout frays before you trust the asset.

After the cutout

Save the transparent asset separately from the full-scene master so you can re-export without regenerating the whole image. Pitfalls

Running removal on a busy collage merges subjects and leaves jagged islands, so isolate one subject in the source still first. Expecting a perfect edge on motion blur or translucent materials without a second pass is how broken cutouts reach design files. Treating the transparent export as the only copy of the work loses the master you need for Smart resize or region edits later.
