Smart-resize an image in Grok Imagine

Take a still you already like on grok.com/imagine and change its aspect ratio so the model fills the new frame instead of stretching or bluntly cropping the original. Official Imagine Image 2.0 calls this Smart resize: one image, any size — pick a ratio and the model completes the canvas. Quality Mode on grok.com/imagine, iOS, and Android is Image 2.0; open that mode before you resize if you have not already — Open Imagine Quality Mode and iterate a still.

What you need

A signed-in Grok account, access to Imagine on the web or the Grok iOS/Android apps, and a still you are willing to keep as the composition source. Smart resize is an Image 2.0 editing job, so stay on Quality Mode for this path. Resize the still

1. Open grok.com/imagine or Imagine in the Grok mobile app, sign in if asked, and select Quality (v2.0) / Quality Mode before you edit.
2. Open the still you want to keep as the base composition, or generate a new one with a concrete subject, verb, and light so you have a strong source before you change the frame.
3. Choose Smart resize (or the aspect-ratio control that offers Smart resize) and pick the target ratio for where the asset will live.
4. Confirm the ratios Image 2.0 shows for this job — the launch write-up lists 1:2, 9:16, 2:3, 3:4, 1:1, 4:3, 3:2, 16:9, and 2:1 — then run the resize so the model fills the newly exposed edges rather than stretching the old pixels.
5. Compare the resized still to the source: check invented objects, duplicated limbs, shifted type, and cropped subjects before you export or send the asset downstream.

A common production loop is approve a square or 4:3 master, expand it to 9:16 for a Story or Reel cover, then recompose at 16:9 for a slide or web hero, and finally try 2:1 when you need a wide campaign banner. Keep the same source still for each ratio so lighting and subject stay consistent across placements.

After the resize

Export or download the version that passes your check, and keep the original master so you can resize again without regenerating the whole scene. Pitfalls

Resizing a weak first draft locks in composition bugs at every ratio, so fix subject and light on the master before you fan out sizes. Treating Smart resize like a hard crop throws away the fill behavior Image 2.0 was trained for.
