When the X plugin stays on “still turning on API access”

Use this when X reads still work in Grok Bot but writes fail, and the plugin shows X is still turning on API access for this X account or asks you to try again in a few minutes. This is a known issue. Reconnecting or reinstalling the X plugin will not clear it. Checked Oct 16, 2026.

Cursor staff (Colin) said on forum thread 174966 on Oct 16, 2026 that they are already tracking this. Some write actions, including creating bookmark folders and adding bookmarks, are currently refused by X for the connector. The “try again in a few minutes” wording makes this look temporary. Staff said retrying, reconnecting, or reinstalling the X plugin will not clear it.

The original report said reads worked and writes (bookmark folder, add bookmark) had failed since Oct 11, and that reconnecting and reinstalling did not help. That matches staff's interim. Do not quote support ticket numbers from the thread title or replies.

What still works

Changelog v0.70.2 (Oct 11, 2026) says Bots can search X and read posts and profiles without you connecting an X account. Staff's interim for the refused writes: create bookmark folders and bookmarks directly in the X app. The connector is not the only way to make a bookmark.

There is no published fix and no timeline. Do not sit in a reconnect loop. First-time X sign-in is a different page. This page is only the “still turning on API access” write refusal after the plugin is already connected.

What to do

  1. Confirm reads still work: search posts, read a profile, or check mentions.
  2. Do not reconnect or reinstall the X plugin for this message. Staff said that will not clear it.
  3. Create the bookmark or bookmark folder in the X app itself.
  4. If you need to tell staff it is still happening, say which write failed (bookmark, bookmark folder, or another write) and that reads still work. Do not paste ticket numbers or emails.

The X connector does not send X Chat or DMs. That limit is separate: When the X connector cannot send Chat or DMs.
