Link your X account so Grok picks up the right subscription
Use this when Grok or The X Subscription should see an X account you already pay for, or when you need X benefits on a new X Subscription seat. xAI and X are separate logins. Hub: Plans, billing and usage. Neighboring jobs: Switch Cursor, SuperGrok, and X Premium to The X Subscription, Should you switch to The X Subscription or keep your old plan?, and Compare X Subscription plans and legacy SuperGrok.
Leftover X Premium / Premium+. If you still pay for X Premium or Premium+ and have not switched, Grok only sees that benefit after the X account is linked to your xAI account.
The X Subscription. The direction is reversed: you connect a personal X account to get X benefits. Org or affiliate X accounts cannot connect (docs.x.ai/x-subscription/x-premium, checked 2026-10-13). Premium, Super, and Ultra include full X Premium+ benefits. Plus shows an X Premium checkmark on the pricing cards.
Link on the web
- Sign in at grok.com with the xAI or X Subscription account you actually use.
- Open Settings → Account.
- Click Connect your X Account.
- Finish X's sign-in page with a personal X login. Org or affiliate X accounts cannot connect.
Manage sign-in methods any time at accounts.x.ai. Connecting X is not the same as buying SuperGrok or The X Subscription.
Switching cancels leftover X Premium
If you switch those leftover X Premium or Premium+ subscriptions into The X Subscription, X Premium on the linked X account is cancelled, with an automatic prorated refund from The X Subscription flow. The new plan is charged at full price. The refund goes to the original payment method and can take a few days. App Store and Play exceptions live on Should you switch to The X Subscription or keep your old plan?.
Account issues go to support@x.ai (Colin, staff, forum 174450 #1). A completed switch is permanent and cannot be undone by Support.
Fix the “I paid but Grok says upgrade” loop
- Confirm the same login everywhere (web, iOS, Android). A different Google, Apple, or X identity is a different account.
- If you subscribed with Apple Hide My Email, keep signing in with Apple, not the relay address through Google.
- Restart the app, or log out and back in, after you link. Clear cache or reinstall if the upgrade prompt sticks on an active plan.
- If you already switched, look for an X Subscription tier, not leftover SuperGrok or X Premium wording.
Leftover X Premium refunds and billing disputes that are not part of an X Subscription switch still go through X, not xAI support. After a switch, the X Premium cancel and prorated refund are part of The X Subscription flow.

Pitfalls
- Linking X as a sign-in method is not the same as buying SuperGrok on grok.com or buying The X Subscription. Those are separate products with separate billing pages.
- Connecting an org or affiliate X account. Official X Subscription docs say those cannot connect.
- Expecting Support to undo a completed switch so you can relink a different X login.
- Compromised accounts: support can cancel a subscription or delete the account so you can start over. Contact them with your user ID as soon as you notice an email change you did not make.
