GROK / should-you-switch-to-the-x-subscription

Should you switch to The X Subscription or keep your old plan?

Use this when you are deciding whether to leave SuperGrok, a Cursor plan, or X Premium for The X Subscription. Switching is optional. If you do not switch, your current plan continues (docs.x.ai/x-subscription/do-i-have-to-switch, checked 2026-10-13). A completed switch is permanent. Support cannot undo it. Read the cards on Plans, billing and usage first. Neighboring jobs: Switch Cursor, SuperGrok, and X Premium to The X Subscription, Compare X Subscription plans and legacy SuperGrok, and Cancel or refund a SuperGrok subscription.

Old names are closed to new sign-ups and not retired for people who already hold them. None of SuperGrok, SuperGrok Plus, SuperGrok Heavy, Cursor Pro / Pro+ / Ultra, or X Premium / Premium+ was renamed. The new Premium is not X Premium. The new Ultra is not the previous Cursor Ultra plan (Colin, staff, forum 174450 #11).

Which new tier sits next to which old plan

Official pages do not publish a one-to-one rename table. Use the published comparisons only.

If you hold today Closest published X Subscription reading
SuperGrok ($30) + Cursor Pro + X Premium+ (about $90 combined) Premium $30/mo or $300/yr is "the benefits of SuperGrok, Cursor Pro, and X Premium+, previously $90/month combined" (x.ai/news/x-subscription, checked 2026-10-13). Premium and up include full X Premium+ benefits.
SuperGrok Plus ($100) Super $100/mo or $1000/yr is the new card at that price, with 15x included first-party usage and priority at peak. It is a new plan, not a rename.
Cursor Ultra Ultra $200/mo or $2000/yr is a new plan with 50x included first-party usage and earliest access. It is not the previous Cursor Ultra plan. Cursor Ultra is closed to new sign-ups.
X Premium / Premium+ only Premium, Super, and Ultra include full X Premium+ benefits. Plus shows an X Premium checkmark on the pricing cards. Starting from X does not include Cursor.
Cursor plan, no switch yet Included third-party usage on that Cursor plan continues until you switch (Colin, staff, forum 174450 #1). Third-party models on the new plans are not included; they bill from credits on Premium and above. Plus is Grok models only.

New individual prices, taxes excluded: Free $0; Plus $8/mo or $80/yr (Base); Premium $30/mo or $300/yr (4x); Super $100/mo or $1000/yr (15x); Ultra $200/mo or $2000/yr (50x). Teams seats are Premium / Super / Ultra at $30 / $100 / $200 per seat. Plus is not available for teams. News copy says at least twice as much coding usage as the comparable Cursor plan, and more usage per dollar. Official pages do not publish absolute token counts for that claim.

Keep the old plan when you still want its leftover included third-party Cursor usage, when unify is not on your account yet, or when you are not ready for a permanent switch. Switching is optional. If you do not switch, your current plan continues (docs.x.ai/x-subscription/do-i-have-to-switch, checked 2026-10-13). Third-party included usage on a current Cursor plan continues until you switch (Colin, staff, forum 174450 #1).

Refunds by payment method

When you do switch, you get a prorated refund for unused time. The refund goes back to your original payment method, separately from the checkout total. The new plan is charged at full price. Refunds can take a few days (docs.x.ai/x-subscription/pricing, checked 2026-10-13).

  1. Web / default card path. Unused time refunds to the original payment method. Do not expect the refund to be subtracted from the new-plan charge at checkout.
  2. Cursor via the Apple App Store. That Cursor subscription is not cancelled or refunded in the switch flow. Cancel in iOS Settings and ask Apple.
  3. Grok, Grok Bot, or X Premium via the App Store. Those subscriptions are cancelled, and xAI asks Apple to refund. Apple decides. Do not treat that refund as guaranteed.
  4. Google Play. Check that the old subscription is not still set to renew, and cancel there.

X Premium or Premium+ on the linked X account is cancelled on switch, with an automatic prorated refund from The X Subscription flow. Official pages do not say Bots or routines carry over.

Decide

  1. List what you pay for today: SuperGrok tier, Cursor tier, X Premium / Premium+, store (web, App Store, Play).
  2. Map that list to the table above. Premium is the published combined-benefits card. Ultra is not old Cursor Ultra.
  3. If unify is missing, wait. Switching is optional.
  4. If you switch, use Switch Cursor, SuperGrok, and X Premium to The X Subscription. Then confirm the refund lands separately from the new full-price charge.

Pitfalls

  • Reading new Premium as X Premium, or new Ultra as old Cursor Ultra.
  • Expecting Support to reverse a completed switch.
  • Expecting the unused-time refund to lower the checkout total.
  • Treating App Store refunds as guaranteed. Apple decides for Grok / Bot / X Premium IAPs. Cursor App Store charges are not cancelled in this flow.
  • Promising yourself that Bots or routines will carry over. No official page says they do.
